HEATING FOR FLOATING FLOORS

What are floating floors? Floating floors are floors that are not glued down, but merely laid on top of the sub-floor. They can be laid (as in the case of PVC or carpet) or mounted interlocking. They are ideal for renovations, as thicknesses remain very low. Thanks to Warmset aluminium heating – in the two Black and Gold versions – it is possible to heat floating floors with just 10 mm of flooring+radiant ribbon, without removing the existing floor.

The total thickness also includes the insulation, which can be Warmfoam or Warmduplex foam.

Both these insulation layers are very efficient and are distinguished by their thickness (Warmfoam is the thinnest) and by how they are produced. Warmfoam is made of polyethylene foam, while Warmduplex foam is polyethylene foam combined with aluminium and nonwoven.

Regardless of which of these two options are used, it is essential always to place an insulation layer under the radiant heating. This prevents any damage caused by the hard foundation and evens out the base even, making the floor more stable and uniform.

WARMFOAM E WARMDUPLEX FOAM

The Warmfoammade of 5 mm polyethylene foam, is ideal for all types of application. Thanks to its thickness and to the features of the material, it is extremely light: therefore, it can be easily transported in rolls of up to 1 m in height.

Polyethylene foam is used to give the system mechanical stability and reduce impact and footstep noise.

The insulator Warmduplex foam is the ideal solution for installing floating floors. It is characterized by a triple-layer structure, in which each material provides a specific property:

  • the 440 g/m2 nonwoven base offers high thermal insulation and adhesion to the subfloor during installation;
  • the aluminium film is an excellent vapour barrier and acts as infrared ray reflector, directing the rays toward the part to be heated;
  • the polyethylene foam gives the system mechanical stability and reduces impact and footstep noise.

Regardless of which of these two options are used, it is essential always to place a recommended insulation layer under the radiant heating. This prevents any damage caused by the hard foundation and evens out the base even, making the floor more stable and uniform.

4-STEP OFFICE RENOVATION EXAMPLE

In this succession of pictures you can see how an office was upgraded by installing Warmset heating above an existing floor, without removing it. After installing a layer of insulation and the Warmset heater, a floating floor was laid. In this way, in just 2 cm you have a new heated floor.
